Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. Quote by: Mark Twain
I have sailed away from my safe harbor and launched into creative writing. Story writing is a whole new journey with struggles against strong winds, and wonderful when I catch the trade winds in my sails. I don’t want to be disappointed that I did not stick with it.
Business writing came easy. I wrote every day, all day. It became the way I thought, the way to succeed. The bar for my records, my business documents and letters was the “will it hold up in court” test.
My ultimate goal is to write and illustrate children’s picture books. I have been on this path for 2 years but the learning curve is much steeper than I expected. I have found that writing stories for any age group is a specialized writing style. My schooling and growing up years did not prepare me for writing fiction. I am thrilled to be making up the shortcomings now, I will stay the course, I can develop the skills I need to thrive. On-line courses, finding community with writers I am comfortable with, and putting in the time describe my path.
How about you? Have you sailed away from your safe harbor? Don’t be disappointed; catch the trade winds in your sails. We are applauding you, your direction and your endeavors!
