Elfi Altendorfer is a fabulous jewelry artist creating unique, original art! Enjoy getting to know Elfi and her work!
How do you describe yourself as an artist? I am a Jewelry Artist, inspired to design and craft jewelry that reflects the soul and beauty of the materials. My designs are ever changing and evolving to reflect the passage of time and place while embracing my European heritage. I love to create jewelry to accentuate the wearer’s personality and style, is fashion forward and beautiful yet affordable. Whether classic or contemporary, each piece is one of a kind and meticulously handcrafted.
Please describe your work. My goal is to create timeless designs in a restless world. Each of my creations are unique and made with a combination of materials: bringing “the outdoors” into my work using natural wood or nut beads, or bringing back “the bling” by using Swarovski crystals, Czech glass beads or re-purposed materials like rubber, safety pins and much more.
Describe the path you have taken to develop your art. I was born and raised in Austria and was fortunate to grow up in an environment where art and craft was encouraged. Life has taken me across the European Continent, Middle East, Africa and New York to San Francisco. I always return full of creativity, appreciation and respect for the uniqueness of different cultures and nature’s endless combination of colors, textures, shapes and symbols.
After exploring several other careers in Interior Design and Marketing I rekindled my passion for handcrafted Jewelry. I have been experimenting with this medium off and on for many years and have been seriously designing and making Jewelry since 2006.
Please talk about your associations with galleries and how you promote your art. I find value in being a member of several organizations and in exhibiting my art regularly in galleries including:
The Main Gallery, Redwood City and Holly Hill Urban Style, San Carlos
East Valley Artists Association, San Jose and ARTS RWC, Redwood City
Peninsula Arts Council, Belmont
and at Tanz Traum, Uster/Zürich
